We had a very relaxing few days away at the beach. This was our second trip. The first was with Mellow, Emily, Leonora and families just after we arrived. That was a fantastic start to our time here, but we couldn't see the camera and were having too much fun to spend any time looking for it. This time we made up for it with hundreds of photos (there are more in our picasa web albums for doting Grandparents and the like)
Both children loved swiming in the big waves. Miriam thinks she can swim unaided and keeps trying to take our hands off her. She's wrong.
Miriam took quite a while to get used to the feeling of walking on sand, but got there in the end. Tim and the kids had a great time making sand castles. Somehow the kids forgot about the potential to knock them down.
Reuben and Miriam love copying each other. Miriam runs and plunges into the water just like Reuben.
Reuben also copies her:
We watched fishermen (and they were all men - the women did the next part of the job). They attached long nets to canoes, then paddled out and left them for 20 minutes, before pulling the nets back in. It looked like hard work, but not a bad living.
I thought it would be a while longer before I heard Reuben say "let's play chess Miriam", but they really enjoyed playing with the "black and white people".
We ate in the most beautiful restaurant - a shelter overlooking the bay.
Reuben set out a table with chairs for monster, peacock and spider (his imaginary friends - spider and peacock are children like him, but monster is a High Commissioner).
Only peacock turned up in reality.
I can't resist including a photo of the children demonstrating what stone age kids must have done when they wanted to pretend to talk on their mobiles...
Highly amusing (particularly the bit about the monster being a High Commissioner - watch out Tim, it may come back to haunt you!). Glad you guys are having so much fun. A small amount of snow here (not enough to make snowballs with) but minus temperatures which are not so enjoyable. Have a great and hot Christmas.
ReplyDeleteYes, I was wondering what monster's deputy was called! The photos & descriptions are great - almost like being there. But in contrast, we have a sprinkling of snow on top of treacherous ice around the house.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo - great fun!love the phones! It's very pretty here but COLD!We might have a white Christmas yet.
